چکیده

In the preceding paper (1) an enzyme preparation was described which catalyzed the synthesis of citrulline from ornithine in the presence of adenosinetriphosphate (ATP), ammonia, magnesium and bicarbonate ions, and carbamylglutamate. Glutamic acid could not replace the latter compound. Balance studies have failed to provide satisfactory evidence for the r61e of carbamylglutamate in this system. Therefore we have attempted to obtain more certain information as to the source of the carbamyl group of citrulline by the use of isotopically labeled compounds. Experiments were carried out with C14-labeled carbon dioxide, carbamylglutamic acid labeled with Cl4 in the carbamyl group, and with N16-labeled ammonia. The experiments reported in this paper show clearly that carbamylglutamate does not participate in the synthesis of citrulline by the transfer of its carbamyl group to ornithine as previously postulated (2). It will be shown in the present paper that the carbamyl group of the citrulline synthesized can be accounted for in terms of the free ammonia and bicarbonate ions added to the system.

Experimental Investigation of Reactive Absorption of Ammonia and Carbon Dioxide by Carbonated Ammonia Solution

In this work, reactive absorption of gases in aqueous electrolyte solutions has been investigated resulting in the development of a procedure in order to calculate the concentrations of ionic and molecular species in the liquid phase. Two duplicate experiments were conducted to investigate simultaneous reactive absorption of ammonia and carbon dioxide in partially carbonated ammonia solutio...

An Experimental Investigation of Reactive Absorption of Carbon Dioxide into an Aqueous NH3/H2O/NaOH Solution

In this research, the reactive absorption of carbon dioxide in an aqueous solution of NH3, H2O, and NaOH has experimentally been investigated. The experiments were carried out in an absorption pilot plant in different operational conditions. The composition and temperature of both gas and liquid phases were obtained during the column height. The concentration of molecular ...

Study of carbon dioxide fixation in the synthesis of citrulline.

The ornithine + citrulline -+ arginine cycle of urea synthesis originally proposed by Krebs and Henseleit (1) has had increasing experimental support (2-10). The position of citrulline in the cycle, however, has been questioned (11). With the advent of the successful separation of the two over-all enzymatic steps, ornithine -+ citrulline and citrulline -+ arginine (lo), from the intact cellular...

A global two component signal transduction system that integrates the control of photosynthesis, carbon dioxide assimilation, and nitrogen fixation.

Photosynthesis, biological nitrogen fixation, and carbon dioxide assimilation are three fundamental biological processes catalyzed by photosynthetic bacteria. In the present study, it is shown that mutant strains of the nonsulfur purple photosynthetic bacteria Rhodospirillum rubrum and Rhodobacter sphaeroides, containing a blockage in the primary CO2 assimilatory pathway, derepress the synthesi...

Graphene Oxide/Polyaniline-Based Multi Nano Sensor for Simultaneous Detection of Carbon Dioxide, Methane, Ethanol and Ammonia Gases

In this study, a multi nanosensor was fabricated for the simultaneous detection of carbon dioxide, methane, ethanol, and ammonia gases, and its electrochemical response to various concentrations of these gases were investigated. In order to fabricate this multi nanosensor, in the first phase, the Graphene-Oxide/Polyaniline (GO/PANI) nanocomposite was synthesized. Chemical ...
